Adamawa approves N5.6 billion contracts for education, health, airport projects

The Adamawa State Government has approved contracts worth more than N5.6 billion for projects covering education, healthcare, environmental sanitation, housing and airport infrastructure.

The approvals were made at the 18th State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the Government House, Yola, on Friday.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Leader Leneke, said the council approved N176.8 million for instructional materials and the printing of learning materials for public secondary schools.

He said N212.9 million was also approved for the construction of 100 heavy-duty metal waste bins to be installed at various locations in Yola to improve environmental sanitation.

In the health sector, Leneke said the council approved N295.7 million for the construction of a computed tomography (CT) scan block at the General Hospital, Michika.

“Another N1.34 billion was approved for the procurement of a 32-slice CT scan machine for the hospital to strengthen diagnostic services and improve access to specialised healthcare,” he said.

The commissioner said N249.9 million was approved for the construction of a multipurpose community hall in Prambe, with a completion period of six months.

He added that the council approved N1.43 billion for the construction of a new Deputy Governor’s Office complex to address the shortage of office space at the existing facility.

He explained that the space constraints had necessitated the relocation of the deputy governor’s office to the Government House.

The council also approved N1.90 billion for the construction of a new presidential lounge at Aliyu Mustapha International Airport, Yola.

Leneke said the facility would provide improved amenities for dignitaries and other VIP passengers using the airport.

He said the projects were expected to improve public service delivery, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, enhance environmental sanitation and upgrade facilities for government officials and airport users.

The commissioner added that the approvals reflected the Fintiri administration’s commitment to addressing infrastructure gaps and improving service delivery across the state.
