The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has begun clearing a large waste black spot at Carwash Bus Stop, Iyana Oworo, along the Alapere/Third Mainland Bridge.
LAWMA Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin said in a statement on Thursday that the exercise began on October 15, 2026.
He said the operation involved deploying a heavy-duty excavator and tipper trucks to remove accumulated household and commercial waste from the road median and drainage channel.
Gbadegesin said LAWMA, working with relevant enforcement agencies, was investigating the source of the illegal dumping at the location.
“The evacuation is only the first step. We will strengthen monitoring, identify those responsible and take appropriate action to prevent this location from becoming a dumping ground again,” he said.
He said the authority would work with Kosofe Local Government officials to intensify surveillance and enforcement.
Gbadegesin added that LAWMA would sensitise residents, traders and transport operators on proper waste disposal.
The LAWMA chief urged residents to patronise registered private sector participation operators for waste collection.
He warned against indiscriminate waste dumping in drainage channels, road medians and other public spaces.
Gbadegesin also urged residents to report illegal dumping and emerging waste blackspots through LAWMA’s official reporting channels.
He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner Lagos.
