Why Arsenal Signed Willian- Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that the club’s decision to sign Chelsea midfielder, Willian was because of versatility on the pitch.

The Brazillian midfielder penned a three-year contract with the North London club on Friday as he part ways with the Blues, leaving Stamford Bridge as a free agent.

Arsenal made the official announcement through its social media page as he became Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the season.

Speaking on the arrival of Willian, Arteta said him and his backroom staff have been monitoring the player for the past few months noting that the player will ‘really make a difference’ at the Emirates.

“We have been monitoring him for the past few months, we had a clear intention to strengthen in the attacking midfielder and the winger positions [and] he is a player that gives us a lot of versatility, he can play in three or four different positions.

“He has the experience of everything in the football world but to still have the ambition to come here and contribute to bring the club where it belongs. I have been really impressed with all the talks I have had with him and how much he wanted to come.”
