EPL: Clubs to vote on scrapping VAR ahead of 2024/2025 season

Premier League clubs will vote for the possible abolition of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) ahead of the 2024/2025 season.

This comes after a proposal submitted by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The letter was sent to the league body, after the Midlands club suffered from several controversial decisions this season.

It noted that VAR was introduced “in good faith and with the best interests of football and the Premier League at its heart.”

However, Wolves claims that “it has led to numerous unintended negative consequences that are damaging the relationship between fans and football, and undermining the value of the Premier League brand.”

Any rule change would require 14 members approval to pass it.

VAR was introduced in 2019 to assist support on-field officials with key match decisions.
