No Election Has Been Free And Fair In Nigeria-  Wike

None of Nigeria’s elections, according to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, have been free and fair without violence, insecurity, or militarization.

According to TopnewsNaija, Wike made the assertion on Thursday in Port Harcourt at the 2023 Port Harcourt City International Conference.

He claimed that numerous instances of election manipulation have destroyed Nigeria’s free and fair elections and democracy, adding that everyone should be concerned about preserving and strengthening it.

The governor claimed that the country’s faith in democracy will be determined by whether or not effective governance was practiced.

According to Wike, the power of the government must come from the consent of the governed, and democracy is the best form of government for governing.

Wike claimed that the country’s faith in democracy would be determined by how well or poorly the government ran things.

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, who spoke at the occasion as well, said the conference’s focus will be on problems that would help Nigeria’s democracy endure.

The event’s chairman, Fayemi, stated that more effort needed to be done to maintain the nation’s democracy and that Nigerians yearned for good leadership.

He claimed that the country would be able to improve its democratic administration by taking a lot of lessons from the successes and errors of previous leaders.
