Hon Adewale Temitope Leads Ministry Of Environment Officials On Inspection Of Damaged Idiagbon Street

Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, OON (JP), member representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 01 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, on Thursday, led officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources on a visit to Idiagbon Street (Connecting Haruna), Ifako-Ijaiye, to assess the bad portion of the street.

The damaged street has been a critical concern for residents, causing numerous accidents and making life difficult for them, especially during the rainy seasons.

Addressing stakeholders within the community, Hon. Adewale Temitope said, “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our constituents is our top priority. The state of this street is unacceptable, and we cannot allow it to continue endangering the lives of our residents. That is why we are here today for assessment and to talk to you and let you know that we have heard your concerns.

“We will do our best to speed this up, but we also need your support. When the government comes to start work, some structures will have to make way. So, we want you all to support us to get this done in a timely manner.”

Engineer A.S. Olaniyan, Resident Engineer for Ifako-Ijaiye/Alimosho, Ministry of Environment, also addressed the crowd.

He said the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, commended the people for their patience with the state of the road.

He assured them that the government would come to their rescue by commencing work on the street, as Hon. Adewale Temitope has constantly been advocating for the rehabilitation and construction of the street.

He also appealed for the support of the community when the time comes for the state government to begin the rehabilitation.

Engineer Olaniyan said engineers from the state would come and start the survey of the street in preparation for its rehabilitation while he works with Hon. Adewale Temitope to speed up the process.

One of the residents, Ifayemisi Awofolaji, expressed gratitude and relief at the announcement.

“We’ve been waiting for this for a long time. It’s reassuring to see that our concerns are being heard and addressed. If and when you start work, you can be assured that you have the support of the community. If it is my house obstructing work, kindly demolish it,” he said.
