Charles Idahosa Explains Defection from PDP to APC

Charles Idahosa, a former Commissioner for Information in Edo State, has attributed his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s perceived neglect of party leaders. Speaking in Benin, Idahosa expressed his frustration with Obaseki’s lack of regard for those who played significant roles in his political journey, including securing his second term in office.

Idahosa recalled his own pivotal role in Obaseki’s 2020 governorship election success, citing his decision to stand against former governor Adams Oshiomhole, who was then the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). “I stood up against Oshiomhole and moved to PDP with Obaseki when he was being victimized by APC leaders,” Idahosa explained.

However, after Obaseki’s victory, Idahosa felt that the governor failed to appreciate and support the people who had stood by him. “He keeps saying people are angry because they wanted him to share state money, but I challenge him to name these people,” Idahosa stated, expressing his disappointment.

In addition to his concerns about party loyalty, Idahosa criticized the lack of development in the state under Obaseki’s leadership over the past seven years. Feeling disillusioned and unfairly treated, he decided to return to the APC, believing the PDP and Obaseki did not honor their commitments to their supporters and leaders.
