Bauchi: PDP, APC trade words over N100bn for 2 flyovers, roads

The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State have continued to trade heated words over the state government’s plans for the construction of two flyovers and 200 kilometres roads at N100 billion

State Commissioner of Works and Transport, Ibrahim Galadima, who disclosed the projects while briefing journalists shortly after the State Executive Meeting in Bauchi, said the flyovers will be constructed at the Wunti and Central Market to provide free flow of traffic in the two markets and 200 kilometre urban and rural roads at 16 strategic locations across the three senatorial zones of the state

Responding to the projects, a chieftain of APC, who doubles as gubernatorial campaign spokesman for the 2023 election, Sabo Mohammed, described the decision of the PDP-led administration to embarked on the projects as misplacement of priority amid economic hardship through white elephant projects that will not impact positively on the lives of the citizenry.

Mohammed said apart from the economic hardship, the state is currently battling with out-of-school children, deteriorating healthcare system and increasing security challenges but unfortunately the government is prioritising white elephant projects.

Reacting, the PDP, through its State Publicity Secretary Yayanuwa Zainabari, said the APC in Bauchi State was conducting a blindfolded opposition against Governor Bala Mohammed’s developmental stride geared towards renewal of the state and thus lacked patriotism.

Zainabari said, “We all remember how the former APC government borrowed a huge amount of money in Bauchi and there is no single project to show that their administration started and completed in their four years of wastage dispensation. An example is a 5-kilometre township road in Bauchi metropolis out of which the APC government was unable to finish one kilometre in four years.”
