Security agents arrest bandit links to abduction of Ondo travellers
A combined team of security operatives has apprehended one of the suspects in connection with the abduction of four travellers in Irun Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government area of Ondo State.
His arrest is coming barely a day after the travellers who were returning from a function were seized by the armed bandits.
The travellers were abducted Saturday around 6 pm while en route Irun through Imesi town, a close border community with Ekiti and Ondo states.
Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, had confirmed the abduction of travellers, saying his men are currently on trial for the bandits.
But on Sunday, Daily Trust learnt that the suspect was apprehended inside a forest where he was hiding.
A top security officer who confided in our reporter said the suspect (name withheld) was immediately taken to the palace of Onirun of Irun Akoko.
“Thereafter, we took him down to the Police Area Commander’s office in Ikare Akoko for further interrogation,” he said.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, a Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said she is yet to be properly briefed about the latest development.
She, however, promised to quickly get back with details.
