President-elect Tinubu vows to deliver as he visits Oba of Lagos

Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, arrived in Lagos on Sunday and was greeted by a large crowd of supporters and party members after his private jet landed at the Presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja.

The news comes just five days after the former Lagos State governor was declared the winner of the contentious presidential election held on February 25.

Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes, defeating his closest rivals, PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who received 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.

Tinubu was greeted at the airport by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Muiz Banire, and Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, the state’s Woman Leader.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Sunday by Tunde Rahman, the president-media elect’s adviser.

Rahman stated that shortly after his arrival, the delegation went to the Iga-Iduganran palace of Lagos’ Oba, Rilwanu Akiolu, where the monarch and traditional white cap chiefs awaited him.

TInubu, speaking to a small crowd gathered inside the palace, assured Nigerians that he would not let them down.

He stated that he would work tirelessly for Nigeria from the start and would not let the people down.

While thanking God and the people for his eventual victory, he compared the primaries and election to a tricky and unpredictable World Cup tournament.

Reacting to his home coming, Akiolu described the president-elect as a special breed “who is destined for leadership at the very top.”

At the gathering were also the monarch of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, Oba Saheed Elegushi, and Oniru of Iruland, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal.

Meanwhile, a non-denominational organisation, Christian Conscience Group, has urged President-elect to address the sufferings of Nigerians as soon as he is sworn in.

The group listed security, basic infrastructure, food and job for youths as areas Tinubu must address.

This was contained in a statement, titled, ‘Be A Father Of All, Group Tasks Asiwaju,’ and signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Tunji Oguntuase.

“Don’t be a winner-takes-all President, but form a government of inclusiveness where Nigerians will have sense of belonging,” it added.
