PDP condemns alleged assassination of youth leader

By Chris Njoku, Owerri

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has condemned the alleged assassination of its youth leader in Oru East Local Government, Kenneth Amukamara.

Gunmen suspected to be assassins, on Tuesday killed Amukamara.

The hoodlums also burnt his house and vandalised his brother’s vehicles, said to be a retired soldier.

Reacting to the alleged murder, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike, told The Nation that the incident, which occurred at Umuokwe, Eziawo 1, in the council area, increased tension in the area.

He described the assassination as sad.

“It is a sad one. It happened. We verified it. It is true. He was killed by gunmen.

“Our party condemns the incident. It is unfair to turn Imo State into a war theatre and river of blood. It is strange and worrisome because it is not in our character.

“We have called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to give us explanation about what is happening, but he has been running around playing politics.

“We have called on the governor to convene a genuine stakeholders’ meeting on safety and security where the attendees will address the issue, but he has not done so.”

Police spokesman Bala Elkana said the incident has not been reported to the command.
