Olubadan buried, Tinubu, Obasanjo, others mourn

The late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, was yesterday buried at his Aliiwo ancestral home according to Islamic rites.

The burial ceremony, which involved the two-rakat Janazat prayer, the Islamic prayer for the deceased, was led by the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Shelkh Abdul Ganiyu Agbotomokekeke.

Balogun’s remains were thereafter laid to rest after the prayers.

The traditional ruler died on Thursday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan after a brief illness.

The 82-year-old Ibadan traditional ruler ascended the throne on March 11, 2022 after the demise of Oba Saliu Adetun.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu said he received the news of the passing of the Olubadan with a deep sense of grief.

In a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Tinubu noted that Olubadan was an exceptional king who used his position to serve humanity.

In the same vein, former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a statement by his aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, paid glowing tribute to the late Olubadan, saying he left an impeccable record of incorruptible leadership, legacy of forthrightness, thoroughness and unwavering commitment to public good.
