Marry your friend to avoid marital problems – Speaker Abbas

Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Tajudeen Abbas, has advised Nigerian youths to get married to their friends in order to avoid marital troubles.

He gave this advice in Abuja on Saturday at the launching of the book titled “Called to be Chosen and glorified God’s Vessels” written by late Maureen Mimidoo Tarka Fateh.

Represented at the occasion by Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, member of the House of Representatives, the Speaker since no one is perfect, only friendship could make couples overcome the troubles in marriage.

“The wife is born and raised from a different background just like the husband. When you come together, what should bring you together is friendship.

“Once you are married to your friend, you won’t have any problem. You can overcome any problem once you allow friendship and the love of God to take precedence in your marriage,” Hon. Abbas who was the chairman of the occasion said.

Earlier in his address, he said the book reminded the gathering that they were divine vessels for God’s purpose, adding that it was “one thing we have taken for granted.”

On his part, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the family is an institution recognised and established by the almighty God, appealing to Nigerians to continue to show solidarity with the family.

“My appeal to Nigerians is to show respect, to show love, to show solidarity as family members. Nobody is perfect and we are capable of failing at times. So, when we fail, we should be able to forgive one another and ensure the continuity of the family.

“We need the family so that we don’t go extinct and that has been captured graphically in the book (being launched),” he said.

Fateh Apeh Fateh, the writer’s husband, said the book encapsulates the beliefs of his late wife.

The book allows readers to see themselves as vessels of God, he added.

The writer, a lawyer, died in 2017 from cancer.
