Ganduje: Politicians Are Biggest Threats To Nigeria’s Electoral Process

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen Abdullahi Ganduje, has said politicians are the biggest problems to the country’s electoral system managed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

Ganduje said contrary to the popular opinion that insecurity poses a threat to INEC, Nigerian politicians are the enemies.

The APC boss said this while receiving the Director of Election and Party Monitoring for INEC, Hawa Habibu.

He said the country’s institutions would take the responsibility of educating the populace to raise civilised politicians.

“It is important for INEC to undertake the exercise so that they can obtain the viability of political parties for the sake of planning and records and in conformity with the law,” Ganduje said.

“I know one of the biggest problems of INEC in conducting elections is insecurity. Everyone will say INEC, but it is the politicians.

“So in order to understand the rules and regulations of elections in order to understand what is required to be a civilised politician, our institutions will be educating our people from time to time so that they can abide by the rules, and it will be digital.

“We have also directed that in all our party offices, ranging from wards to local government, zones, and states, basically, the officers must be available.”

Meanwhile, the former Kano governor, Thursday, led the leadership of the party in Kano to a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Among the delegation were Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Bunkure, the party’s candidate in the March 18 governorship election, Nasir Gawuna and his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo and Abdullahi Abbas among others.

It was the first meeting Ganduje engineered since the the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, as the duly elected governor of the state.
