From Joe Nwachukwu, Owerri

Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES) Umuagwo, Imo State, Professor Christopher C. Eze, has called for the immediate digitalization of the nation’s agricultural systems.

The VC said bringing technology into the agricultural sector, which involves a wide range of strategies including artificial intelligence, mobile technologies and other digital solutions that attract such benefits, will help arrest the food crisis in the country.

In his address at the opening ceremony of the second workshop on “Promoting digital solution for farmers in remote communities to adapt to climate change in Nigeria” held at the senate chambers of the institution, Profesor Eze said streamlined communication, effective monitoring, better documentation with more informed decisions and saving of time and money for the farmer.

Eze noted that as the most populous black nation in the world, with a population of over 200 million people, Nigeria is contending with huge gaping mouths to feed which could only be done when technology meets agriculture.
