Court sacks Ondo Deputy Speaker, reinstates Ogundeji

An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has dismissed Hon. Aderoboye Samuel from his position as deputy speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly and representative of Odigbo Constituency II.

The State House of Assembly was mandated by the court to promptly restore the impeached Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Iroju Ogundeji.

As the Deputy Speaker, Ogundeji was impeached in December 2022 due to alleged serious misbehavior.

According to the court presided over by Justice Adetan Osadebey, who emphasized that the alleged impeachment was carried out before the Assembly created the panel to investigate him, the legislator was not given a fair hearing.

Once Aderoboye’s appointment was ruled to be illegal, the court issued an order mandating Ogundeji’s immediate reinstatement and the payment of all accumulated benefits.

Justice Osadebey gave the lawmaker a N10 million award for his humiliation during his alleged impeachment and suspension from the Assembly.
