Biafra: Simon Ekpa Must Be Arrested – Chief of Defence Staff

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has asserted that Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Biafra Prime Minister, must be arrested and prosecuted for inciting violence and supporting the activities of gunmen in Nigeria’s Southeast.

General Musa expressed his concerns during a special broadcast on Channels Television to mark Nigeria’s 2024 Democracy Day. He criticized Ekpa for exploiting the protection afforded to him by the Finnish government to perpetrate violence in Nigeria.

“We have repeatedly complained about the issue of Simon Ekpa. He is in Finland, and the Finnish government is giving him all the support, and he is doing what he is doing,” Musa stated. He added that Ekpa’s inflammatory remarks have led to loss of lives in Nigeria, without any intervention from the Finnish authorities.

Ekpa, who is based in Finland, has been issuing sit-at-home orders in the name of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu. These orders have contributed to unrest and violence in the region.

The Chief of Defence Staff called on the Nigerian federal government to pursue diplomatic measures to address the issue with the Finnish authorities. He emphasized the need for Ekpa’s arrest and prosecution to stop his harmful activities.

“We need to diplomatically find means of stopping him from whatever it is that he is doing. He must be arrested, and he must be prosecuted,” Musa insisted. He also pointed out the inconsistency in the European Union’s stance on democracy, suggesting that if a Nigerian were inciting violence in Europe, it would not be tolerated.

Musa’s remarks underscore the urgency and severity of the situation, highlighting the impact of Ekpa’s actions on national security and the need for international cooperation to address this challenge effectively.
