Alia mourns as 15 victims buried
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State expressed deep sorrow and mourning for the victims of the armed invaders’ attack on the Mbakyor community in Mbalom Council Ward of Gwer East Local Government Area. The attack, which occurred on March 7, 2024, resulted in the tragic deaths of 17 people, with many others sustaining injuries and houses burnt.
During the burial ceremony for 15 of the victims, Governor Alia, represented by his deputy, Barr Sam Ode, promised that such incidents would not be tolerated in the community anymore. He assured the community that his administration is actively working on security strategies to prevent further armed herders’ attacks on Benue communities.

Professor Vitalis Tarhule, President General of the Masev Development Association, called on the government to provide the necessary protection to prevent further attacks. He highlighted that this recent attack was the third in the community, with previous incidents in 2014 and 2018, emphasising the urgency of establishing a dedicated security outfit in the area.
