228 police officers resume to work in Lagos

On December 29, 2022, 10,000 police recruits in total graduated, and on Thursday, the Lagos State Police Command welcomed back exactly 228 of them.

According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police, all 228 constables who are from Lagos have been sent to other local government areas.

On Thursday, Hundeyin tweeted, “All constables of Lagos State origin, 228 of them, reported for duty today. 10,000 of them graduated from various police training facilities last month.

“All have been posted to their respective LGAs to boost community policing. Welcome onboard, guys.”

10,000 constables who had just graduated from police training institutions were being captured by the Integrated Payroll and Personnel System, according to a request made by the Police Service Commission to the Accountant-General of the Federation.

According to the commission, the police officers shouldn’t be registered on the payment site because they haven’t received their letters of appointment.

The Public Service Rules provide that pay and other benefits cannot be paid to public employees who are not listed on the IPPIS.

The purported refusal of Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, to submit their names for review by the PSC on the grounds that the Police Act, 2020 gave him authority to hire constables into the force, led to the development.

The commission also informed the Head of Service, Folasade Yemi-Esan, and the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), in a letter concerning the enrollment of 20,000 police officers on the salary portal without letters of appointment.
