Viral video: Imo Police goes tough against officer extorting motorists

In a bid to get rid of bad eggs within its ranks and files, the Nigeria Police, Imo State Command, has moved against its officers that indulge in unprofessional conduct.

The State Police Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma made the declaration while reacting to a video that caught a police officer extorting money from motorists.

In a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, on behalf of the CP, he identified the erring officer who was caught extorting money from motorists along Owerri-Onitsha express Road as Inspector Isong Osudueh, attached to the Counter Terrorism Unit, CTU, Owerri.

He stated that the officer, after necessary orderly room proceedings by the police disciplinary committee, would be demoted for exhibiting such shameful and unprofessional conduct, while the officer in charge of the unit had been summoned for official query for lack of supervision.

“The disciplinary actions taken against the erring officer underscore the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and integrity among its personnel, while effectively discharging its lawful duties and entrenching public trust and confidence,” the PPRO stated.

Okoye maintained that the Command under the watch of the Commissioner was strongly determined to expunge the police of any embarrassing act from any of its officers.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reiterates that the Command under his watch will not condone any act of extortion or misconduct by its personnel and warns that any supervisory officer who fails to carry out his oversight duties will be severely sanctioned,” he added.
