Troops neutralize bandits, recover weapons in Sokoto
Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed many bandits during a reprisal attack in Tukandu village, under Sakkwai Ward, in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The bandits were said to have met their Waterloo around 2:00 pm on Tuesday when they invaded the village to avenge the killing of one of their colleagues on Monday.
A source said that the bandits had attempted to attack the village on Monday but faced fierce resistance from the locals leading to the killing of two persons, including a bandit.
The residents were said to have fled the community, leaving behind military operatives who were deployed to restore peace in the area in anticipation of a reprisal attack.
Unaware of the development, the bandits attacked the village around 10:00 am but were engaged in a gun battle by the military.
The gun duel reportedly lasted for hours, resulting in the killing of several bandits while a military personnel sustained gunshot injury.
Twelve motorcycles and three AK 47 rifles were recovered from the bandits.
