Man, 38, Arraigned For Alleged N4.8m Fraud

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has arraigned a 38-year-old man, Idowu Babatunde, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N4.8 million under false pretences.

Babatunde, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and dishonesty.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Olusegun Kokoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large between June and July 2022 in Lagos.

Kokoye said that the defendant dishonestly obtained N4.8 million from one Banjo Olufemi under the pretence to purchase a Toyota Highlander vehicle, which he never did.

The prosecutor said that the defendant later converted the said amount for his personal use.

Kokoye said that the offences contravened Sections 411, 314 (3) and 287 (1)(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Sakirat Obasa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Obasa ordered that the sureties should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until May 9 for mention.
