‘It’s illegal’ – TRACE warns Ogun residents against blockage of road for social events

The Commander and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Cdr ‘Seni Ogunyemi, has warned residents against blocking roads for social events.

Ogunyemi gave the warning during a radio programme in Abeokuta.

While noting that it is illegal, he explained that the government only gives permits to organise social events and not to block roads for other people’s usage.

“It is illegal to block roads for social parties under sections six and seven of the law, which established TRACE. The problem is lawlessness on the part of the people.

“They always say that they got permits from local governments, but they do not know that it is only to organize social parties and not to block public roads. TRACE must be involved too, in order to have a free flow of traffic at such social gatherings,” he said.

He, however, stressed the need to curb such lawless behavior through continuous public enlightenment, pointing out that TRACE officers do more sensitization and counseling of offenders through corrective measures than enforcement.
