Four suspects paraded for stealing phones during Akeredolu’s second term inauguration

Four suspects have been paraded by the Police Command in Ondo State for allegedly stealing mobile phones during the second term inauguration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The suspects who confessed to the crime disclosed that they came from outside the state to perpetrate the act.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Tee Leo- Ikoro, during the ceremony held at the International Culture and Events Centre, the Dome in Akure, the state capital, there were distress calls from some dignitaries over the stealing of phones during the event.
While emphasizing that the suspects came from Osun, Oyo and Kwara States to snatch phones from dignitaries, Ikoro said the suspects were handed to them by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Akeredolu on Special Duties.
“During the inauguration of the Governor of Ondo State for the second term in office at the Dome, distress calls were received about the activities of some persons who specialised in snatching phones and other valuables.
“The criminal-minded persons who came from different states to attend the ceremony succeeded in snatching some phones from people who attend the ceremony.
“Upon the receipt of these complaints, detectives from CP’s Special Operation Squad swung into action and four persons were apprehended. They were arrested along Ilesha/Akure highway and seven handsets were recovered from them.
“They’ve confessed to the crime. They also claimed that they came to Akure from Oyo, Osun and Kwara States respectively for the purposes to steal phones and other valuables”, the PPRO said.
The Police Spokesperson disclosed that the suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
