Court remands four security guards for alleged murder

A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded four security guards in a correctional facility for alleged murder.

NAN reports that the defendants Sunday Onilede, Fatai Alao, Abdullahi Ibrahim, and Hassan Rasak, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.

The prosecuting lawyer Mr C.A. Okhiku, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 13, at the Bariga area of Lagos.

Okhiku said the defendants were security officers patrolling the area and that they got into a fight with the deceased who had blocked the road with his car.

According to him, the defendants inflicted a deep cut on the man’s neck with a machete during the fight leading to his death before getting to the hospital.

He said the offences contravened Sections 223 and 233 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adedayo, rejected the pleas of the defendants.

Adebayo ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos State, pending legal advice.

She adjourned the case until April 6.
