A 16-year-old girl, identified as Ma’khia Bryant has been shot dead by police in Columbus, Ohio.

Police said the shooting happened a later time after they were responding to a report of an attempted stabbing in the southern part of the city on Tuesday.

Ma’Khia Bryant, was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition and confirmed dead.

Police in a press conference held late Tuesday said a body camera footage showing the incident has been found and would be investigated.

In the footage, the police officer is seen approaching a fight among several teenage girls.

Police said the slow motion video appeared to show that the officer shot the teen just as she attempted to stab the first female that landed on the ground and then the second female that was pushed onto the vehicle.”

The late teenager’s aunt, Hazel Bryant said the victim, despite her issues did not deserve to die like a ‘dog on the street’

“Ma’kia was a good kid. She was loving.

“Yeah she had issues, but that’s OK. She did not deserve to die like a dog on the street, Hazel told ABC.

The shooting occurred barely an hour before the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin of second- and third-degree murder in the death of George Floyd last May.

Ned Pettus, director of the Columbus Department of Public Safety, at a press conference called for justice, answers for the death of Bryant.

“My heart breaks for the family tonight. No matter the circumstances, that family is in agony. They deserve answers, the city deserves answers.

“But fast answers cannot come at the expense of accurate answers,”Petus said.
