Mohbad’s Father Questioned by Police Following Oba Elegushi’s Petition

Operatives from the Force Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police Force in Alagbon, Lagos State, have interrogated Joseph Aloba, the father of late singer Ilerioluwa, popularly known as Mohbad. This follows a petition filed by Oba Saheed Elegushi, accusing Aloba of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation.

Aloba’s legal team, led by Monisola Odumosu, revealed that the interrogation stemmed from statements Aloba made during a recent interview. Aloba explained that he did not intend to defame the monarch, but was simply seeking justice for his son, Mohbad.

Odumosu clarified that Aloba was neither arrested nor detained, and that Oba Elegushi only requested a retraction of the defamatory statements.

In a statement, Odumosu said, “Mr. Aloba was invited by the police and led to the police station by the representatives of his legal team, Teri Wellington and Monisola Odumosu. The petition was written by Oba Saheed Elegushi who alleged that during one of Mr. Aloba’s interviews with a London-based blogger, he was criminally defamed. During the interview, Mr. Aloba allegedly said, ‘… his son was bullied and killed on the instruction of Oba Elegushi and that it was one Sam Larry that was sent to do the job…’”

Odumosu added that Aloba was granted bail without any issues and highlighted the emotional state of Aloba, who is still grieving the loss of his son. “Any grieving parent may on the spur of the moment make statements that may tend to be unreasonable. We only need to understand the geographical circumstances giving rise to his utterances,” she said.

Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, has been surrounded by controversy, with claims that he was bullied and killed by those close to him.
