Ogun frowns at companies for denying regulatory officials access to inspection

The Acting General Manager, Ogun State Building Production Management Authority, OGBPMA, Engr Olakunle Olaniran, has warned companies to desist from denying government officials and regulatory agencies access to their facilities as this amounted to disrespecting the laws of the state.

Olaniran gave the warning while addressing newsmen after government officials were violently manhandled in an attempt to deny them entry into a company facility during a monitoring and enforcement exercise along the Mowe axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Olaniran noted that every company domiciled in Ogun State was under the jurisdiction of established regulatory agencies.

He stated that, “When companies lock out government officials from performing their statutory duties of inspecting and monitoring their facilities, they might as well be saying they are above the law, and this will not be tolerated in Ogun State.”

The Acting General Manager emphasised that the regulatory roles of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and its agencies were to ensure the development of a safe and functional environment for the citizenry in line with international best practices.

Meanwhile, five commercial buildings, including two multi-building industrial facilities, a warehouse complex, and a filling station along Mowe, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as well as a commercial building in Itoko, Abeokuta, were sealed for not having planning permits or building authorisations.
