Industrialisation: 18 researchers, inventors get patent certificates

The federal government has conferred patent certificates on 18 researchers in recognition of their diverse inventions and innovations aimed at addressing industrialisation challenges and fostering economic development.

Speaking during the ceremony organised by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), yesterday in Abuja, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji said intellectual property in the area of technological innovation has become the basis of the international power structure today.

“This is a gesture to encourage inventors, stimulate innovative activities and demonstrate the federal government’s commitment to aiding researchers and inventors in safeguarding their Research and Development (R&D) outcomes, both for their own economic benefit and that of the nation as a whole”, Nnaji said.

The minister added that, “I have reliable information that from 2010 until now, NOTAP has successfully obtained approximately 320 patent certificates for inventors, researchers from tertiary and research institutes, and individuals.”

The director-general of NOTAP, Dr. Dan Azumi Ibrahim highlighted that the patent certificates were granted to inventors and innovators who had developed patentable research results through their research efforts.
