Cardoso to hold first MPC meeting 4 months after resumption

Four months after resumption as Central Bank governor, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso is set to chair the first Monetary Policy Committee meeting of the apex bank scheduled to hold on February 26th and 27th 2024.

Recall that President Tinubu appointed Cardoso in September 2023 and since then no MPC Meeting has held even though it is scheduled to always hold once in two months.

The MPC members are in charge of monetary policy decisions in the world economy and the last time it held its meeting was in May 2023.

Confirming the MPC meeting in Abuja over the weekend, the Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department of the CBN, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, disclosed that the bank earlier held a strategic session aimed at brainstorming and engaging an in-depth discussion about the committee’s objectives.

“The valuable insights gained from these discussions will significantly contribute towards the robustness of the forthcoming MPC meetings,” she noted.

Meanwhile, a calendar of meetings of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) for 2024 published on the CBN website indicates that the meetings have been scheduled for February, March, May, July, September and November 2024.
