Bobrisky sentenced to six months without fine
Prominent Lagos socialite Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to a six-month jail term without the option of a fine. The sentence was handed down on Friday, April 12, 2024, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
This comes after his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges related to the mutilation of the naira.
The EFCC initially arrested Bobrisky for allegedly spraying naira notes at an event. Following his arrest, the EFCC launched an investigation into his activities, alleging that he had engaged in similar offences at various other venues. Bobrisky cooperated with the EFCC during the interrogation process, providing voluntary statements. The EFCC later amended its charges to include money laundering, but these additional charges were dismissed by the court.
