Elderly persons now soft targets for kidnapping – Ex-PPRO
The elderly persons have become soft targets for kidnappers, a former spokesman for the Kwara State Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, has said.
Okasanmi disclosed this in Ilọrin, the Kwara State capital on Wednesday during the monthly meeting of the National League of Veteran Journalists in Ilorin, the state capital.
He said, “The elderly are the soft target for kidnapping. Kidnappers know that children will do anything to secure the release of their fathers/mothers.
“In this regard, elders should be careful about where they go and the activities they engage in.”

He further advised elderly persons to exercise restraints in responding to messages, especially those on financial issues so as not to become victims of fraudsters using the internet to perpetrate crimes.
“We should be careful not to fall into the hands of fraudsters through text messages, especially on financial transactions, and exercise restraint in responding to them on the phone for fraudsters not to empty our bank accounts,” Okasanmi advised.
The former PPRO thanked journalists in the state for their support, which he noted made his tenure eventful and successful.
In her remarks, Okasanmi’s successor, Adetoun Ejire-Aderemi, requested journalists to extend the same support to her.
She promised to build on the legacies of Okasanmi, which endeared him to journalists in the state.
Earlier, NALVEJ chairman, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi, poured encomiums on Okasanmi for the effective delivery of his mandate as police spokesman in Kwara State.
